Collaboration with Appliance Recycling S.A.
The collaboration with Appliance Recycling S.A. began in 2008, and the total amount of waste collected by the company to date has reached 7,000 tons.
This is by no means a small number, especially considering that many of these appliances are often abandoned in gullies and landfills, even though the materials they contain are major sources of environmental pollution, mainly due to the fluids in refrigerator motors (such as CFCs, oils) and capacitors found in electronic systems.
The WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) recycling process involves three stages:
1) antipollution
This is a manual process that includes the removal of specially managed materials (both hazardous and non-hazardous), such as external cables, circuit boards, capacitors, inks, toners, ceramic cooktops, lamps, etc.
2) Dismantling
At this stage, the decontaminated devices are processed for material separation and recovery. The materials are classified into three categories:
- Useful materials (iron, plastics, metals)
- Waste materials for disposal
- Materials for further mechanical processing (decontaminated circuit boards, unrefined metals, internal cables)
3) Mechanical Processing
This final stage aims to purify the recovered materials to enhance their quality and maximize their reuse potential.
